Lisa K. Fazio, Ph.D.

Dr. Lisa Fazio (she/her) is Associate Professor at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She specializes in research on metacognition, math learning, and memory for misinformation. She earned her Ph.D. from Duke University in 2010.

Dr. Fazio studies how people learn new information, both true and false, and how to correct errors in people’s knowledge. This focus includes how to mitigate the effects of reading false information and how to increase classroom learning. Her research informs basic theories about learning and memory, while also having clear applications for practitioners, such as journalists and teachers.

She received the Federation of Associations in Behavioral & Brain Sciences Early Career Impact Award in 2020 and her research is currently supported by major grants from the Mercury Project and the National Science Foundation. She was featured on the With a Side of Knowledge podcast and she wrote a popular news article for The Conversation on fact checking.
