Ludmila D. Nunes, Ph.D.

Dr. Ludmila Nunes (she/her) is the Senior Director for Scientific Knowledge and Expertise at the American Psychological Association (APA) in Washington, D.C. She specializes in science evaluation and communication and research on teaching strategies, motivation, and metacognition. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Lisbon, Portugal in 2012.

Dr. Nunes has conducted research on memory and learning, in laboratory and applied settings. Her research interests include best teaching practices and technologies, and metacognition. She is also interested in using psychological science to combat misinformation and biases. Dr. Nunes has published in academic journals and disseminated scientific research from various areas of psychological science in varied outlets, both in English and Portuguese.

Before her position at APA, Dr. Nunes was the Science Advisor for the Association for Psychological Science (where she hosted the APS podcast Under the Cortex) and a researcher at the Center for Instructional Excellence at Purdue University. She has taught a variety of courses at the university level, including Human Memory and Learning, Social Psychology, and Introduction to Cognitive Psychology. She writes for the popular press, including a feature in Diário de Notícias.
